Responsibility

At Nidus, building responsibly means thinking holistically and evaluating all relevant factors equally and relating them to one another: this includes ecological and economic aspects, functional and aesthetic as well as cultural and sociological aspects. Development, planning and construction processes at Nidus are characterized by a critical perspective, own experience and a broad basic knowledge in all phases.

Building is a process and not a state. Every decision within a project is therefore made consciously, always against the background of building for a long-lasting low-emission and healthy life cycle of the building.

Group 2 Chapters

Building Structure

Everything starts with the structure of the building. Whether existing or new: intelligent building structures build on each other, are planned to be open to use and can therefore be easily transformed and economically implemented. They lay the foundation for the lifespan of a building. Nidus projects in existing buildings work with and not against the existing structure.

Gray Energy

The energy that is used to construct a building, the „gray energy“, has not yet been accounted for. Ever since it was founded, Nidus has been developing projects in existing buildings, if they exist. As a result, a significant proportion of emissions was and is saved with each project.

Health and Wellbeing

Humans spend almost 90 percent of their lives indoors. Physical and mental health in buildings therefore plays an important role at Nidus. It begins with the choice of location and continues with the positioning of the building and the structure of the rooms through to the materials used, which determine the room climate. With the materials used, whether for shell construction, insulation or interior design, we pay attention to low-emission, origin and manufacturing process.

Construction and Materials

Each project is planned individually and a construction method appropriate to the location, the building and the use is selected. Whether solid construction or lightweight construction, such as in wood: Details are always planned in a simple and executable way. This ensures that they can be repaired, reworked and rebuilt. Natural and regional materials and construction techniques are used in Nidus projects, which can be processed by local craft workshops.

Energy

Nidus projects are low-tech buildings: renewable energies are used for the energy supply, ventilation systems are avoided wherever possible, heating and cooling ideally go hand in hand. Nidus buildings are designed to react to existing climatic conditions and to use them in the best possible way. Nidus keeps a close eye on the latest developments in building technology. However, it has often proven to be more permanent to keep the technical equipment in all areas, but especially in the electrical installation, as simple as possible.

Circularity

By preserving building substance, upgrading it and activating it, Nidus sees existing buildings as a valuable source and storehouse of materials. Values and material flows that have already been created are actively reused in the sense of a circular economy. In the case of newly introduced materials and constructions, special attention is paid to repairability, dismantling and separability and reusability. Nidus is working on setting up its own material warehouse so that existing materials can be reused across projects, both now and in the future.
