Our Story
Nidus is a Düsseldorf-based architecture and real estate development firm founded by Annelen Schmidt-Vollenbroich and Ana Vollenbroich in 2016. Known for a distinct approach, Nidus blends modern functionality with the historical essence of each location.
Our Focus
The company specializes in both preserving and enhancing existing structures as well as creating new buildings, often taking inspiration from post-war and traditional German architecture.
Nidus projects range from private residences to small multi-family developments, consistently emphasizing sustainability and flexible building structures.
Inspired by life and everyday experiences, Nidus has developed a subtle yet iconic architectural language that contributes to a new architectural thinking. A pure yet sensuous simplicity, clear structures, and high-quality materials create atmospheres of uncompromising quality.
As a holistic real estate, architecture, and design company, Nidus not only invests in its own projects but also takes on commissioned work in Germany and world-wide.
Culture + Experience
Beyond architectural work, Nidus fosters a vibrant cultural exchange. Our team hosts exhibitions and events, integrating architecture, art and local culture to make our spaces more than just buildings but community focal points.
Our Founders
Ana Vollenbroich
Ana (*1984) is a lawyer and founder of Nidus. She grew up in the Rhineland and the UK and studied philosophy and law at Humboldt University in Berlin. She worked as a lawyer in major international law firms in trade mark law and managed the real estate department of a medium-sized company. Her desire for entrepreneurial independence first led her to study real estate economics in Frankfurt and shortly afterwards to found Nidus.
Annelen Schmidt-Vollenbroich
Annelen (*1986) is an architect and founder of Nidus. She grew up in East Friesland, the USA and Mexico before studying architecture at KIT Karlsruhe and ETH Zurich as a scholar of the German National Academic Foundation. She initially worked in internationally renowned architecture firms and taught architectural theory at various faculties. Her interest in economic contexts then led her to study real estate economics in Frankfurt. Annelen is a board member of the Cologne Architecture Prize.
Annelen is a member of BDA and AKNW.
Where to find us
Currently located in a repurposed fittings factory, Nidus will relocate in 2025 to the former Mosaic Workshop, where we will unite our office, showroom, and exhibition spaces in a unique historic setting.
